Well human beans, the long break is almost over, and school is getting ready to start back. Time to get reacquainted with all your old friends over at Greendale Community College, when NBC’s Community returns this week. The Season 5 premiere is about to kick off, and we are a few pals shy. Pierce Hawthorne, played by Chevy Chase, might not be coming back this year, but fear not. Castle star and cult icon Nathan Fillion will be making a special guest appearance this season. If only he would join the cast.
It is that time of year again. Time to go back to school. The long awaited fifth season of NBC’s cult comedy, Community, is about to begin. The new season premiere will air on Thursday, January 2nd, with a very special hour-long episode starting at 8 p.m.
The official synopsis for the first episode, titled “Repilot,” reads:
“In the Season 5 premiere, Jeff returns to Greendale to collect evidence for a lawsuit. Upon hearing news of Jeff's visit, the Dean organizes a reunion for the study group in hopes that Jeff is back to help save the school.”

The synopsis for the second episode, titled "Introduction to Teaching" states:
“Professor Hickey shows Jeff the ropes at Greendale and gives him advice for handling rowdy students; and Abed convinces the study group to take a new class with Professor Garrity.”

However, don’t expect things to be the same this time around. Not only is Pierce Hawthorne, A.K.A Chevy Chase, gone from the cast this season, but Donald Glover will also have a reduced role as well. Glover will only be in a handful of episodes this year in order to work on other projects, including his very own TV show.
Although, it is not all bad news. Series creator Dan Harmon is returning after being absent for the fourth season. Castle star and Community superfan, Nathan Fillion, will also join the cast in a guest spot later in the season.
