Amanda Knox Murder Case Retrial for Helping Boyfriend Kill Roommate [UPDATE]

Amanda Knox has already spent four years of her life in an Italian prison for a crime that, she says, she didn’t commit. The 26-year-old former exchange student and her then boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito have already been convicted once for the murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher. There has also already been a retrial, which overturned the original jury’s conviction. Amanda, who has moved to Seattle, isn't quite out of the hot seat yet. There is a new preliminary retrial already taking place in Italy that could mean extradition for the poor girl.

Ms. Knox was cleared of her involvement in the 2007 death of her British roommate, but that hasn't afforded her too many sleepful nights. The anxiety of having to face another senseless prison sentence coupled with the trauma of her past unjust confinement has taken its toll on Knox’s psyche:

“I sit in my hotel room and cry so loud until the security calls the room, because the person next door has heard me crying. It's really hard for me to talk to people about it. It's like as soon as I allow myself to cry, I can't stop”

There may be good news for the ever more fragile Knox. Amanda most likely will not be sent back to face the Italian penal system no matter what their court decides. A provision in the American/Italian extradition treaty allows the US to deny Italian requests for anyone who is going to be prosecuted again for the same crime. Nina Burleigh, who is an expert regarding the detail of the Amanda Knox trial, told OK! that she doubts it will even come to that:

“This panel will come to same conclusion as the appeals court. There is not enough evidence to convict.”

Sound like things might be over soon for Knox, which is a good thing, because four years in prison is enough.
