Jennette McCurdy is getting into the holiday spirit. The Sam and Cat star recently performed acoustic covers of Christmas classics “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and “Santa Baby.” McCurdy also performed her very own version of Justin Bieber’s "Mistletoe." Not only is McCurdy a talented actress/singer, she is also a prolific writer. McCurdy recently penned an essay in The Wall Street Journal. In the blog, McCurdy tells the story of how she lost and found her Christmas Spirit.
This is Jennette McCurdy’s very first Christmas without her mother. Debra McCurdy tragically passed away earlier this year after struggling with cancer. Now Jennette is reflecting on the Christmases of her past. In the open letter titled, Why I Stopped Believing in Christmas (And How I Got My Holiday Mojo Back),Jennette writes:
“When I was little, however, I believed I had every right to be saddened by the world’s knack for stripping me of my innocence and wonder. But if there was one thing that I shouldn’t have been sad about, it’s Christmas! In a sea of slime and manufactured maturity, Christmas is the one time of year where you are given a free pass to behave like a kid. You can laugh too loud, eat too much, or dress like a fool--and not be ridiculed for your decisions. For this brief time every year, you can be merry and joyful and be called triumphant instead of ignorant. For this brief time every year, you can smile at strangers and smile to yourself and not be considered a loon. For this brief time every year, you’re encouraged to bring out the child in yourself instead of expected to squash it.”
After McCurdy finished her essay, she went on to write her her letter to Santa. Check out the full essay here.
Here’s wishing the McCurdy a very happy Christmas.
