Warner Brothers is apparently getting pretty serious about its DC comics division. Not only is the company going all out in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, Batman Vs Superman, but now new reports are coming out that Aquaman and Cyborg might be joining The World’s Finest in a Justice League movie. The internet is running wild with casting rumors about the possible film.
For years, DC comics has been outdone by its rival, Marvel, when it comes to the box office. Now DC is getting serious about the battle for the big screen. DC is following up 2013’s Man of Steel with the upcoming Batman Vs Superman. Wonder Woman will also be joining The World’s Finest in the film. With the Justice League growing, many are wondering what hero will be next to get the Hollywood treatment. One of the names that is being thrown out, is the one and only Aquaman.
Aquaman has had his ups and downs in the past...well, mostly downs. The character has become sort of a joke, but DC is hoping to turn it around. The company recently announced that they are focusing on the King of Atlantis. Last year, DC’s entertainment chief creative officer, Geoff Johns, spoke with Maxim about Aquaman’s appeal:
“I just always found the character really appealing but also I thought the world--Atlantis and the ocean and all that--was always was pretty mysterious and interesting. Whenever you look into the ocean, your imagination kicks in and you find yourself wondering what’s out there, and Aquaman taps into that whole side, too.’
Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam is at the top of the internets rumor list to play Aquaman.
There are also reports that the newest Leaguer, Cyborg, may be in the new film. Superman himself, Henry Cavill, recently spoke to ComicBookMovie about Cyborg easter eggs in Man of Steel:
“On the extras on the Blu-ray, we're going to get the opportunity to see Zack's references to other aspects of the DC Universe. There's one obvious one which is now particularly obvious because of our next installment, which is involving Batman as well. We see Bruce Wayne Enterprises on the satellite in space. We also see some references to LexCorp. I actually have no further knowledge of this next story, but there's a good chance Lex is going to be introduced soon or at some stage. What really intrigued me was Dr. Emil Hamilton's connection to S.T.A.R. Labs. Cyborg I think would make a wonderful character and an incredible bridge between both superhumans and humanity in a different way to Batman. So I don't know where he's going to come in or if he's going to come in, but that's one I'm particularly excited about. Other references I'm not too sure on, but we'll see where those lead. Those with keen eyes will see them.”
Who do you think should play Cyborg if should ever make it to the big screen?
