'Anchorman 2's' Paul Rudd Cast On ‘Ant-Man,’ Joseph Gordon-Levitt Takes on DC’s ‘Sandman’

Well, it finally happened. Marvel has found their lead for the upcoming motion picture, Ant-Man 2. Anchorman 2's Paul Rudd has officially signed on for the role after months of rumors. Meanwhile, the other Ant-Man (and virtually every other movie) frontrunner, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, has been pegged for DC Vertigos' Sandman film.

After promising us an announcement by the end of the year, Marvel has finally given us a lead for the upcoming Ant-Man. Paul Rudd has been rumored to play the pint-sized Avenger for the past few months, and now it has been made official.

Marvel’s President of Production and Official Movie Talker Upper, Kevin Feige, made the announcement via a press release:

“When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star.We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we'd ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn't be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life."

Meanwhile, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was once rumored for the part himself, recently got cast as a different superhero. Levitt will be playing DC Vertigo’s Sandman in an upcoming motion picture. Levitt will also produce and possibly direct. Dark Knight and Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer will also be working on the project. Levitt tweeted the news earlier in the week, writing:

“Ladies and gentlemen, I'm incredibly honored to be working with David Goyer, Warner Bros, and @neilhimself on SANDMAN. #Prelude”
