Aquaman Solo Movie Casting Rumors: Kicked Out of New ‘Justice League’ Film

With Batman and Superman about to square off on the big screen and Wonder Woman coming along for the ride, a live action Justice League film has never been closer. Now it has been revealed that Aquaman has been kicked out of the League--the new animated movie, Justice League: War that is. However, Warner Brothers and DC comics are focusing on the character for both a solo animated and possibly live action film. Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam is one of the names that has been thrown around to play the King of Atlantis, if Justice League ever hits the big screen.

Now is the dawning of the age of Aquaman. DC comics recently reworked the character into a serious contender with its company wide 2011 reboot know as the New 52. DC’s Entertainment chief creative officer, Geoff Johns, recently talked to Variety about the studio’s new focus on Aquaman:

“He’s a priority character for the company...There is no doubt in my mind that this is one of the most well-known characters among super-heroes, and in popular culture...We are finding new areas in the ocean every day. It’s as alien as going to outer space.”

Johns acknowledged that he has his work cut out for him due to the character's less-than-stellar rep:

“He became a little bit of a joke. Suddenly, he was nobody’s favorite superhero.”

However, with the company's new focus on the character, they are leaving him out of the new Justice League: War movie. JLW will focus on the New 52 origins of the league, without one of its founding members. Aquaman will be left out of the new film. This move has upset some Aquafans, (yes that is real thing), who feel that Aquaman is an essential part of the Justice League. One fan tweeted film writer Health Corson with his concerns:

“Ryan in PA @JockBroLV @SuperPRGuy @HeathCorson Youve got ur work cut out for u tryin to sell the origin of the Justice League without Aquaman. #JusticeLeagueWar”

“Heath Corson @HeathCorson @JockBroLV @SuperPRGuy You ain't kidding. When you see it, let me know what you think. #AquaFans”

What do you think about the new film?
