Things are heating up for the cast of the CW’s hit series The Vampire Diaries, both on and off the screen. Ian Somerhalder’s character Damon recently broke up with his real life ex, Nina Dobrev’s character Elena. Now Somerhalder is denying Dobrev dating rumors by saying that he wouldn’t date a member of the cast. However, he is throwing co-star Paul Wesley under the bus, by saying that his character Stefan isn’t right for Elena. Could Somerhalder still be harboring feelings for Dobrev after all?
Well Damon and Elena might be over on TVD. but what does that mean for the Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder?
Last week at Creation Entertainment’s Annual Vampire Diaries fan convention in Orlando, Florida, Somerhalder was asked if he would date a member of the cast, to which he said the he “doesn’t date co-workers.”
That echoes a statement Nina Dobrev made back in 2012, when she told Seventeen:
"I didn't want to be dating one of my costars-my goal on the show was to be professional.”
Of course, Dobrev and Somerhalder did infact hook up in real life, as she added:
“But sometimes you can't help who you have a connection with, and you can only fight it for so long-which I did for a really, really long time."
So maybe we should take Somerhalder’s comments with a grain of salt.
Later on, Somerhalder was asked if Elena was meant to be with Damon or his on-screen brother, Stefan, played by Ian Somerhalder. Somerhalder simply replied, "I think Damon definitely loves her more."
TVD executive producer Caroline Dries recently talked to TV Line about what effect the future of Elena and Stefan:
"Stefan is a person that she's going to lean on for advice and wisdom. She trusts him fully. But the Damon thing is still so tender. There's still so much that is unresolved about it...They just had a big blowout fight/break-up. But we have to see going forward, the next time they're in the same room together, how they deal with it."
