There have been some new updates for the cast of the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey movie. After Charlie Hunnam quit the role of Christian Grey, a prominent director discussed one time co-star Dakota Johnson in an interview.
Sarah Mintz recently sat down with Cosmopolitan, where she was plugging her new movie, Transit. Sarah directed Dakota Johnson in the short film and opened up about her experience working with the starlet:
“Oh Dakota, I love her! She really is just a beautiful person. We have actually known each other for a while. We met peripherally through friends and then through school--we went to high school together for a few years too. We were close but we weren't like tight-knit friends. And I just knew she was the kind of person that I wanted for the film.”
Mintz also spoke about her confidence in Johnson. According to Sarah, she always knew that Dakota was a huge talent and thinks that the actress is going to be amazing in Fifty Shades:
“I respect her utterly, and I knew she was going to get work. I was pretty sure something big was going to happen for her--and soon. So this was my time to work with her, or to start to work with her. I knew she was a talent and I'm incredibly happy for her. I think she's going to bring something to the Fifty Shades movie that no-one else can bring. I'm in full support of her.”
This latest report comes after Charlie Hunnam’s abrupt exit from the flick. Though the official statement from the studio claims that there was a scheduling problem, many feel that Hunnam quit for a different reason.
After the announcement was made that he would be playing the lead role of the film, there was a tremendous fan backlash. One viewer told Classicalite exactly how frustrated they were with the selection:
“Charlie is not what many of the fans would have wanted, and that’s sadly going to hurt the movie! When it was announced that an old-looking blond man was playing the role, E.L. James lost a movie fan in me.”
