Well, we have good news for two lucky people and bad news for everyone else in America. The epic $656 million Mega Millions lottery was claimed last night by two different winners, dropping this Friday's totals drastically. Lucky players from Georgia and California will share the massive prize. Luckily for them, there is enough to go around.
Think of all things you could buy with $656 million dollars (or $347.6 million cash value). Shell out for the best car in the world, a new house or two and maybe even your own private island and you're still going to have a little left to line your pockets. It is a massive amount of money. Howard Stern would have to work 3 days a week for over five years to make that kind of bank. So we are sure that the two jackpot winners aren’t too beat up about having to share the big prize.
The official Mega Millions website broke the news of the two winners in a press release statement early Wednesday morning:
“The jaw-dropping jackpot that's been causing mega-excitement from coast to coast has been won by two tickets. Those tickets were bought by Mega Millions players in California and Georgia.
"Once all results were tallied, the final jackpot amount for the Dec. 17 drawing was $648 million, just shy of the Mega Millions record of $656 million, set on March 30, 2012. The cash value of Tuesday's jackpot was $347.6 million”.
Virginia Lottery Executive Director and Lead Director for Mega Millions.Paula Otto, also added:
"It was a great run.We have two jackpot winners, but the important programs supported by the 45 Mega Millions lotteries are the real winners. During this 22-drawing run, the lotteries generated more than $300 million in profits for those programs."
In addition to the grand prize, at least 20 one million dollar prizes were also won.
The new totals for Friday’s drawing have reached a depressing $15 million. Well it was fun while it lasted. Best of luck to you.
