Marvel Comics is one of the hottest properties to grace the screen, however, many of the Marvel characters actually belong to different film companies. Disney owns the bulk of the characters, while X-Men is owned by Fox and Spider-Man falls under the Sony umbrella. However, with Venom joining the Guardians of Galaxy, many fans are wondering if the Avengers will face off against the X-Men on screen.
Hugh Jackman is holding out hope that he can one day see Wolverine face off with Iron Man, telling Screen Rant:
“You know, obviously we have people from--one of the great things about this movie is that a lot of people from Marvel are here and it seems a lot more inclusive than it has been in the past. I don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes, but I think it’s fantastic. I actually just asked the other day, I said, ‘I don’t know what the legal situation is, but why don’t these companies come together? Why isn’t it possible?’ Because personally, I would love to mix it up with Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man and kick his ass. It’d be great. (laughs) There you go. There’s your quote. (Laughs)”
However, Joss Whedon, director of the Avengers franchise, recently spoke to Total Film where he said that a grudge match between the heroes will likely never happen.
“That’s not the plan. It would be cool but I think right now I already have a ton of very talented actors in my movie playing a ton of characters, and I’m about to add a few more. So I’m not like, ‘How can we get more licensed characters because I want to kill myself and make a nine-hour movie.’”
However, out of all those new characters is one shared X-Men connection. Quicksilver will appear in both Avengers 2: Age of Ultron and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play the character in the Avengers while American Horror Story’s Even Peters will play the role in the X-Series.
Who do you think would win if A vs X ever squared off in the movie verse?
