'Glee’ Director Adam Shankman Follows Zac Efron to Rehab After Cory Monteith Overdose Death

Glee and Hairspray director Adam Shankman has checked into rehab. Shankman is good friends with Zac Efron and had a strong relationship with Cory Monteith. Undoubtedly, Efron's recent rehab stint and Monteith's tragic death by overdose had something to do with his decision to seek treatment.

Adam Shankman is a multi-talented director, actor, producer, etc, whose credits include: Hairspray, So You Think You Can Dance, Glee, 17 Again, Rock of Ages, Modern Family, The Step Up series and much much more.

Shankman is very good friends with Hairspray’s Zac Efron. Like Efron, Shankman has had his fair share of substance abuse issues. Unlike Efron, Shankman didn’t keep quiet about seeking treatment. Shankman’s rep released a statement to the press announcing that he was entering rehab.

"Adam Shankman is currently seeking treatment in a rehabilitation center. His friends and family support him and wish him well on his journey to recovery."

Shankman has been spending a lot of time with Zac Efron, even visiting him in the hospital after he broke his jaw. Shanksman spoke to People about his fallen friend:

"He has to eat through a straw on a syringe. It's horrible. He's in great spirits. He's just like, 'Wow. It hurts.' His jaw is wired shut. So I talk to him like a little brother, which means I give him a lot of s**t. He's such a klutz. This is, like, a perfect Zac move.”

Shankman was also very good friends with Cory Monteith. Shankman told CNN that he spoke with Montieth right before his untimely death:

“I had several interactions with him yesterday where he said that he was doing amazing. He even said I am feeling fantastic. I’m like everybody else, really devastated and confused by what happened.”

Here’s hoping that Shankman has a speedy recovery so that he can return to his undoubtedly busy schedule.
