Lorde is learning what it's like to be a celebrity the hard way. The 17-year-old “Royals” singer is on the receiving end of One Direction's fan rage. Lorde’s older, Asian boyfriend is being attacked on twitter by racist 1D fan girls. Luckily, Taylor Swift is on Lorde’s “Team.” Swift has had her fair share of run ins with the angry throng, when she dated Harry Styles. Good thing Lorde and Swift have put aside their differences.
Teen singing sensation Lorde is taking a lot of flack over her 24-year-old boyfriend. Not because of the age difference (apparently that is legal in New Zealand), but over the backlash stemming from her beau’s race and looks.
Perez Hilton has compiled a list of a few of the many offensive tweets aimed at Lorde’s boyfriend:
"what the f**k is lorde and that chinese sort of ostrich boyfriend anyway.”
"damn lorde is a lucky girl i bet her boyfriend gives her free manicures and pedicures.”
"lorde's boyfriend or PSY gone wrong you decide.”
"lorde's boyfriend looks like the chinese exchange student from sixteen candles.”
One Direction fans can be vicious. One fan even supposedly murdered her dog when the guys wouldn't follow her on twitter.
Taylor Swift knows what it is like to face the wrath of 1D fans. She took a lot of heat from the bands crazed followers when she dated Harry Styles. Swift told Glamour all about squaring off with the tween army:
"I never read one hateful thing said about me by some 12 year old. So I got to live an actual life. And I’ve kept that mentality. Just because there’s a hurricane going on around you doesn’t mean you have to open the window and look at it. You can be obsessed with the bad things people say and the good things, either way you’re obsessed with yourself and I’m not--you can become unhinged so easily. Vanity can apply to both insecurity and egotism. So I distance myself, because I feel everything. The little I am exposed to hurts my feelings. The only things I can really control are my songs and my behaviour. The rest? If I focused on it, that would lead to insanity."
