The 2012 Helpmann Awards Nominees have been announced.
Live Performance Australia today announced the list of nominations in 41 categories for the 2012 Helpmann Awards for Performing Arts in Australia.
Rock of Ages, the Australian production of the comedy musical has topped this year's Helpmann nominations with seven nominations including Best Choreography in a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Male Supporting Actor in a Musical (Brent Hill), Best Female Supporting Actor in a Musical (Francine Cain), Best Male Actor in a Musical (Justin Burford), and Best Female Actor in a Musical (Amy Lehpamer).
The revival of a Broadway classic A Chorus Line followed Rock of Ages closely, receiving six nominations including Best Choreography, Direction, Male Supporting Actor (Euan Doidge), Female Supporting Actor (Debora Krizak), Best Female Actor in a Musical (Anita Louise Combe).
The annual Helpmann Awards recognize "distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in the many disciplines of Australia's vibrant live performance sectors, including musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and physical theatre."
The 12th Helpmann Awards will take place on September 24 at 8pm at the Sydney Opera House. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Foxtel's STUDIO channel.
