Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the most anticipated new films of 2014. The rag-tag group of heroes will have a tough time on their hands, squaring off against Avengers' villain Thanos and his minions. Luckily for the GOTG, they have their secret weapon, Rocket Raccoon (played by Bradley Cooper).
The coda in the Avengers revealed the team's main villain, Thanos. GOTG director James Gunn recently spoke with Craveonline about Thanos’s involvement in the new film:
"Thanos is a character in our movie. He's the main sort of antagonist...in my movie Ronan works for Thanos, and Ronan is the main bad guy in our film."
However, Thanos will face some tough competition when he finally squares off against Rocket Raccoon. Yeah...you heard that right. In the new film, Bradley Cooper plays the the vicious, gun-toting, space raccoon. Cooper recently spoke with MTV about the role:
"It's been great. The great thing about [Gunn] is that I tried to set the ground rules early. I said, 'Look, you don't have to sugar-coat anything. Just tell me exactly what you want,' I think he was basically going like, 'Did you think I would do anything else?' "
Cooper later elaborated on the direction that Gunn lead him in:
"I think Rocket is dynamic. He's the sort of Joe Pesci in Goodfellas guy. You need Henry Hill."
Marvel Studio's president of production, Kevin Feige, has a lot of faith in the character, telling Total Film:
“We have said early on that the entire movie hinges on Rocket [Raccoon].Hinges on our ability to make the audience accept this gun-wielding raccoon in space. And it started with 'A,' a great character in the comics, 'B,' James Gunn doing an amazing job writing this character, and the animation that the vendors are working on now. And Bradley Cooper bringing this character to life. The key to Rocket is that he doesn’t necessarily know or care that he’s a raccoon, and if you point that out to him, he’s not particularly pleased about it.”
