There has been a major news update in the cast of the 50 Shades of Grey movie. According to reports, the recently deceased Paul Walker wanted to play the role of Christian Grey. This latest news comes after Charlie Hunnam abandoned the role and the beautiful Rita Ora joined the cast.
According to a report by International Business Times, Walker was considering taking the lead role. The gossip site claims that it would have been contingent upon Paul’s chemistry with whoever was cast as Anastasia Steele, as he told Entertainment Tonight:
“It would be really important to have incredible chemistry with whoever the girl was and it couldn’t be something you would have to force. I think people need to spend a lot of time together and I think intimate time would probably help, you know?”
Unfortunately, Paul never got his chance to play the eccentric BDSM billionaire. Of course, neither did Charlie Hunnam, who was scheduled to play the lead.
After a wave of negative fan backlash, the hunk withdrew from the film. The studio alerted the world to Hunnam’s exit via Twitter, where they wrote:
“The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”
Even EL James took a swipe at the actor recently. Perez Hilton reports that in a recent interview, the author praised Jamie Dornan, who replaced Charlie, for receiving praise from fans:
"It was disappointing, but it is what it is. I wish him well. And now we have Jamie [Dornan], and that’s great. It’s been interesting with Jamie, [the fan reaction] has been so positive."
One person who won’t be abandoning the project is Rita Ora. The actress posted the happy news on her website, where she claimed:
“It's official! Rita's been cast in Fifty Shades of Grey as Christian's sister Mia. She will appear alongside Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford and Jennifer Ehle, with Sam Taylor-Johnson directing.”
What do you think about the new casting decisions? Would Paul have made a good Christian? Are you excited that Rita joined the production. We want to hear from you. Tell us your thoughts in the comment field below.
