For months, rumors have been flying about Michael Douglas’ impending divorce and cancer. But now, the award winning actor is making headlines for being nominated for a SAG award for his performance in Behind the Candelabra. This latest nod comes after his public breakup with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, which many tabloids have claimed is due to Mike’s cheating.
Despite being known as a world class actor and having already won an Emmy for his performance, there is no guarantee that Douglas will take home the world. As Daily Mail explains, Michael is facing some steep competition:
“However, the 69-year-old actor has strong competition in the Male Actor, TV Movie or Miniseries category. Douglas will face off against co-star Matt, as well as Jeremy Irons for The Hollow Crown, Rob Lowe for Killing Kennedy and Al Pacino for Phil Spector.”
Even if he doesn’t take home the award, just being nominated is a welcome change for the actor. Since the summer, Douglas has been facing numerous allegations that he cheated on his wife.
Of all the tabloids, Star is perhaps the most vocal. The weekly rag published photos of Michael on vacation with a mystery brunette who looked a lot like Catherine, as a source told the publication:
“At first, everyone thought the woman was Catherine, especially with all the attention Michael was lavishing on her. But it wasn’t. Michael and Catherine are living totally separate lives and are powering full steam ahead with the divorce. She was gorgeous--tall, with long, dark hair pulled back in a braided ponytail and a million dollar smile. Michael seemed to be putting the moves on this woman hard-core. He must be champing at the bit to play the field again.”
Of course, Catherine could have left Michael over comments he made about her giving him throat cancer. Celebrity Dirty Laundry actually offered their own synopsis of his statements:
“His tumor was located at the base of his tongue – a spot that is very receptive to chemo and that has a strong recovery rate. If he didn’t get lucky and needed surgery then Michael would have been looking at having part of his tongue and jaw removed. It has been made pretty obvious that the HPV likely came from his now estranged wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones and she has not been at all happy with Michael’s need to disclose intimate details.”
