The Newport Jazz Festival started its three-day music event Friday night at Newport Casino.
The iconic musical event began with an opening night at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, featuring Dr. John and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
The festival moves to Fort Adams State Park on Saturday and features guitarist Pat Metheny, singer Diane Reeves, guitarist Bill Frisell and jazz trio The Bad Plus.
Sunday features singer Susan Tedeschi and guitarist Derek Trucks, teaming up with their Tedeschi Trucks Band, Maria Schneider Orchestra, Jason Moran and the Bandwagon, Gretchen Parlato and Lionel Loueke, all playing at Fort Adams State Park.
Established in 1954 by Elaine Lorillard, Newport Jazz Festival has showcased the jazz stars through its annual events held in Newport, Rhode Island.
