‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s' Bradley Cooper Talks Rocket Racoon After ‘The Flash’ and ‘Hawkman’ Movie Casting Rumors

Bradley Cooper is one of Hollywood’s hottest actors and yet Marvel comics is keeping him behind the camera in Guardians of the Galaxy. Cooper is providing the voice for the gun-toting Rocket Racoon. Many fans are wondering why the handsome actor is settling for a voice over role. Rumor had it that Cooper was in the running to play both The Flash or Hawkman.

Cooper recently spoke to Collider about his upcoming voice over role:

“I like James [Gunn] a lot and it really was about him and then talking to him about the guy. I wasn’t familiar with the comic at all and then I really loved it, and I love that character. He’s incredible that character. You know, one thing we debated was he’s seen as a cockney accent sometimes. So we talking about whether we’d do that or do this sort of other guy from the city a little bit.”

Cooper went on to talk about the film’s amazing cast:

“Chris Pratt is unbelievable and Zoe is great, she’s always great. Chris Pratt just blew me away. I though he’s just like the perfect guy.”

Chris Pratt had a few things to say about Cooper as well, telling Screen Crush:

"You think it’s a cartoon character, but it’s not, it’s a very real creature. [Rocket Raccoon has been] tortured his whole life and no one else likes him, so he’s lonely and he’s angry and it’s like, [there are] all these elements [to the character]. You sort of forget about that, you wouldn’t think about, [and] hopefully will come to life. I think it will and that’s why they hired a really good actor to do the role. I could not be more excited that Bradley Cooper is voicing Rocket Raccoon. It’s a great character. It’s probably the best character in the movie, just because it’s not what you would expect."

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studio's president of production, told Total Film that Rocket is the movie's secret weapon:

“We have said early on that the entire movie hinges on Rocket [Raccoon].Hinges on our ability to make the audience accept this gun-wielding raccoon in space. And it started with 'A,' a great character in the comics, 'B,' James Gunn doing an amazing job writing this character, and the animation that the vendors are working on now. And Bradley Cooper bringing this character to life. The key to Rocket is that he doesn’t necessarily know or care that he’s a raccoon, and if you point that out to him, he’s not particularly pleased about it.”

Still, many are wondering why the studio chose to keep the leading man behind the camera on this film. Cooper could've been a frontrunner for any number of on-screen heroes, most notably The Flash or Hawkman. What do you think about Cooper’s casting? Let us know who you want to see Cooper play?
