‘50 Shades of Grey’ Movie Cast News: Charlie Hunnam Christian Grey Out, Rita Ora In [UPDATE]

There has been another major update in the cast of the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey movie. Rita Ora has officially joined the set. This announcement comes after the high-profile exit of Charlie Hunnam, who was scheduled to play lead character Christian Grey.

Rita Ora, herself, confirmed reports that she will be playing Christian’s sister, Mia. According to Rita’s official website:

“ It's official! Rita's been cast in Fifty Shades of Grey as Christian's sister Mia. She will appear alongside Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford and Jennifer Ehle, with Sam Taylor-Johnson directing.”

In recent weeks, a number of revelations have been made by the studio producing the film adaptation of EL James bestselling novel. Most notably, however, was the decision to cast Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey.

The gorgeous actor replaced Charlie Hunnam, who was originally scheduled to play the kinky billionaire. His departure was likely a result of the backlash he received when it was announced that he would be Christian. But the movie studio told a different story, tweeting:

“The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

Many felt that the statement was just a cover up, especially considering the public outcry that occurred once it was revealed that he would be Christian Grey. EL James recently took a swipe at Charlie when she revealed that fans actually enjoyed Jamie:

"It was disappointing, but it is what it is. I wish him well. And now we have Jamie [Dornan], and that’s great. It’s been interesting with Jamie, [the fan reaction] has been so positive."
