Good news for James Spader fans. NBC has officially renewed The Blacklist for a second season. The second half of the first season’s release date has also been announced. Meanwhile, Spader is getting ready for his role as the main villain in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.
Rob Greenblatt, NBC’s Chairman, released a statement about the renewal:
"The success of The Blacklist demonstrates that inspired storytelling is alive and well in broadcast television, and I'm impressed on a daily basis by this creative team's imagination and the extent to which they will go to capture this grand vision on film. With gratitude to both our partners at Sony Pictures Television and our NBC development executives who took a great script and shepherded it into a great series, I hope that Red Reddington never runs out of names to bring down on his list!"
The announcement is a little redundant, considering that Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment, previously stated plans for a second season, adding:
“The many layers of Red Reddington and his mysterious reasons for getting into bed with the FBI seem to be fascinating to fans of this show. With great talent like James Spader and Megan Boone on board, as well our stellar executive producers and the whole cast and crew, we believe this outstanding series will continue to make NBC a big destination on Monday nights.”
The second half of the first season returns on Monday, January 13.
James Spader is gearing up for a very busy workload. In addition to the his role as Raymond Reddington on The Blacklist, Spader will also star as the main villain in 2015’s Avengers 2:The Age of Ultron. The script for the new film is officially finished. Marvel’s President of Production, Kevin Feige, spoke with the Huntington Post about James Spader's upcoming role as the maniacal machine:
"Well, I think it will be more than a voice role--we'll be capturing his face and his body to create a whole performance. He's a very unique and incredibly exciting and unpredictable actor. And Ultron in the comics is a robot, but what's cool about him in the comics--and certainly how Joss Whedon is interpreting him for the movie--is that he is much more than just a robot. That he's infused with much character. And I don't want to say too much, but you can imagine James Spader will be very dynamic in his portrayal of this character...We did not hire James Spader to do a robot voice."
