Marvel’s Ant-Man is scheduled to kick off the studio's Phase 3 plans, however, the film has yet to be cast. Now Ant-Man director Edgar Wright is talking about the character.
Ant-Man director Edgar Wright recently spoke to Mirror UK about the character:
"I think the Marvel films that really work are about characters. The first Iron Man is almost like a character study of Tony Stark. It's as much a film about him than it is a big action epic."
Wright later added:
"The difference between [Ant-Man] and other shrinking movies is another shrinking movies are usually about somebody trapped small. This is different in that he can actually change size and he can do that at will, so it becomes more of a power than an impediment...I'm very happy with where Ant-Man is right now."
Kevin Feige, Marvel’s president of production, spoke with IGN earlier in the year about the status of Edgar Wright's Ant-Man:
"We are tweaking the drafts [of the script] with Joe Cornish...and we're crewing up and prepping. There should be cast announcements, probably before the end of the year."
Paul Rudd and Rashida Jones have both been rumored to play Ant-Man and Wasp.
Edgar Wright also spoke to IGN about the new film. During the interview, he danced around the question of who will be cast as the lead, however, he did offer some insight into what they are looking for:
"You'll see when you see the movie that we've definitely written interesting takes on different characters...Of course you need great actors. And I think that's actually what they've done so far in their casting is actually kind of been to cast surprising actors. They haven't gone for the most obvious people. I think from the first movie onwards...People forget that back in 2007 that Robert Downey Jr. was a gamble for them. Now when he's the biggest star on the planet nobody remembers that. But it's a great way to start and they've sort of continued with that casting throughout in terms of casting great people, and interesting people, and people you wouldn't expect."
