The casting process for the Broadway production of Swept Away, a musical set at sea and featuring music by the talented Avett Brothers, has successfully come to a close.
Broadway World reported John Gallagher Jr., Stark Sands, Adrian Blake Enscoe, and Wayne Duvall have played an important role in shaping the nautical-themed musical and are set to lead it into the bustling waters of commercial success on Broadway.
In October 29 ahead of an official opening on November 19, the Longacre Theatre will set sail with a story of four men stranded in the Atlantic Ocean following a shipwreck in the 19th century.
The theatrical journey will be complemented by the songs of The Avett Brothers, with a special focus on their 2004 album "Mignonette," which features songs such as "No Hard Feelings," "Murder in the City" and "Ain't No Man."
The Avett Brothers said in a recently released statement, "This musical, much like our relationship, revolves around the theme of brotherhood. Being able to watch John, Stark, Adrian and Wayne team up in the development of 'Swept Away' over these years has been the precise definition of brotherhood."
The story of "Swept Away" unfolds the wide expanse of the ocean, amid tales of maritime disaster, camaraderie, and deliverance. Created by the acclaimed Tony Award recipient John Logan (known for his work on "Red" and "Moulin Rouge! The Musical"), guided by the visionary Tony Award honoree Michael Mayer (renowned for "Spring Awakening" and "American Idiot"), and brought to life through the dynamic choreography of Tony Award nominee David Neumann.
In 2022, the production debuted at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre before captivating audiences at Arena Stage's Kreeger Theater in 2023 at the Mead Center for American Theater in Washington, D.C.
