Warner Brothers is getting pretty serious about it’s DC Comics division. The company has recently announced that it is working on TV shows for HellBlazer, Hourman, Gotham and iZombie. Meanwhile, Guillermo del Toro is offering up a Justice League Dark film update.
Earlier this year, it was announced that The Dark Knight and Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer will head up production on NBC’s Constantine show. John Constantine, A.K.A Hellblazer, is a chain smoking, supernatural detective and magician. Constantine previously appeared in a poorly received film adaptation starring Keanu Reeves. Constantine is also a member of the group, Justice League Dark.
Guillermo del Toro recently spoke with IGN about how the new Constantine show will affect his Justice League Dark film, Dark Universe:
“We talked about it at DC and Warners, and I feel confident that the two properties can exist at the same time. I think that DC is trying to create a great universe of characters, and expand it and make it clear to the audience that it’s a landscape of characters, and not just one that’s dependent on one or two characters.”
Meanwhile, a slew of other DC shows are currently in the works. The CW is about to introduce The Flash to the Arrowverse. The network also has plans for a Wonder Woman prequel as well as an Hourman series.
A working synopsis for the Hourman show reads:
“Hourman centers on a brilliant-yet-troubled pharmaceutical analyst who discovers that the visions that have plagued him since childhood are actually glimpses of tragic events occurring one hour in the future. Determined to win back his ex-wife and son, he heroically prevents these tragedies from unfolding, finding both purpose and redemption along the way.”
However, this differs from the comic book origins of a man who invents a highly addictive drug that grants him superpowers for one hour.
Veronica Mars’ Rob Thomas is scheduled to return to the small screen is DC/Vertigo’s iZombie.
Fox has also green lit a Batman prequel series called Gotham that will focus on a young Detective Jim Gordon. The show skipped the pioit process to receive a rarely award straight to series pickup.
