"Stranger Things," the sci-fi series from Netflix, is making its way to the Broadway stage.
The three-hour theatrical production is a prequel to the iconic streaming series, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Set in the small town of Hawkins in 1959, " Stranger Things: The First Shadow" will introduce young counterparts of the familiar adult characters from the show.
Among them are Joyce (Winona Ryder), Hopper (David Harbour), and Bob Newby (Sean Astin).
Starting its previews at the Marquis Theatre on March 28, 2025, with the grand opening anticipated in April, this theatrical production has already been showing in London's West End since December 2023.
The West End rendition garnered widespread acclaim for its stage effects. Its outstanding performance led to the 2024 Olivier Award win for both best new entertainment or comedy play and best-set design.
In creating the novel "Stranger Things: The First Shadow," Kate Trefry worked with The Duffer Brothers and Jack Thorne, who had previously co-wrote "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child."
In the upcoming Broadway production, the roles of James Hopper Jr., Joyce Maldonado, and Bob Newby will be portrayed by different actors, with the cast yet to be revealed.
According to its logline, "Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper's car won't start, Bob Newby's sister won't take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn't so easy... and the shadows of the past have a very long reach."
The exclusive opportunity to secure early access to tickets for the highly anticipated show "Stranger Things: The First Shadow" on Broadway will end on September 12, 2024. General sale is on September 17, 2024.
