‘X-Men Day of Future Past' Hugh Jackman Survives Skin Cancer Scare After Surgery

X-Men: Days of Future Past star Hugh Jackman is opening up about how he survived cancer. The Wolverine actor is currently recovering after skin cancer surgery.

Jackman first announced his cancer scare on Instagram when he posted a picture of his bandaged nose along with the message:

“Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a basil cell carcinoma. Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”

Basil cell carcinoma is a type of slow growing skin cancer. Jackman had the cancerous growth removed and is recovering nicely.

Another Marvel super hero, Samuel L. Jackson, has also urged men to open up about their health issues, stating in a PSA:

“Guys don't talk about their health issues, unless they've got a sprained ankle. We'll talk about our injuries but we won't talk about our illnesses, so I think it's time we do that.”

Meanwhile, Jackman is reprising his role as the unkillable Wolverine in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Jackman spoke with The Daily News earlier in the year about playing Wolverine for the seventh time:

"I love this character, and I never take for granted the opportunity I have to play what I think is one of the cooler, more interesting, multilayered comic book characters, particularly with this one I have wanted to do the story. At some point my body will give up, but right now I'm enjoying it more than ever."

Director Bryan Singer gave Empire a preview of the film, that revolves heavily around Wolverine:

"It's about figuring your rules and sticking to them. The principle I looked at is this theory that until an object is observed, it hasn't really happened yet. The time-traveller whose consciousness travels through time I call The Observer, and until The Observer returns to where he travelled from, the result hasn't occurred yet. So he can muck about in the past and it isn't until he snaps back that the new future is set. As a result, we're able to have parallel action, and there's an underlying tension because there's always that threat Wolverine's consciousness could return and leave the world in an even darker place."
