'Merrily We Roll Along,' the smash Broadway hit starring Tony-winners Jonathan Groff and Daniel Radcliffe and nominee Lindsay Mendez, is being filmed this week. No official announcement regarding a release date or platform has been made.
The Tony-winning Best Musical will be professionally filmed by RadicalMedia, the same production company that pro-shot and produced 'Hamilton' and 'Come From Away.'
TikToker bryantheba shared a video on Wednesday, June 12, theorizing that a June 16-17 shoot was scheduled with proof of "No Parking - Film Shoot" signage outside the Hudson Theater. The filming was confirmed by an anonymous "production insider" to Deadline.
The street signs showed that RadicalMedia, the company that developed and captured the film version of 'Hamilton' that debuted on Disney+, is filming 'Merrily We Roll Along.'
A production spokesperson told BroadwayWorld, "The show producers are filming their production of Merrily for posterity. That doesn't happen very often. We'll see what happens."
'Merrily We Roll Along' marks 20 years of turbulent friendship in reverse chronological order. The musical was directed by Maria Friedman, a longstanding collaborator with Sondheim and recipient of multiple Olivier Awards.
The revival took home four Tony awards at the ceremony on Sunday, June 16, including Best Lead and Featured Actor in a Musical (Groff and Radcliffe), Best Orchestrations (Jonathan Tunick), and Best Revival of a Musical. The performance will continue until Sunday, July 7.
Furthermore, the revival leads Lindsay Mendez as Mary Flynn, Jonathan Groff as Franklin Shepard, and Daniel Radcliffe as Charley Kringas. The trio are all repeating their roles from the production's sold-out 2022 Off-Broadway run at New York Theatre Workshop, with Kathy Rose Clarke as Beth Shepard, Reg Rogers as Joe Josephson, and Crystal Joy Brown as Gussie Carnegie. Brady Wagner, Max Rackenberg, and Rocca Van Auken share the role of Frank Jr.
