Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean held a surprise encore performance of the boy band's hit song "Everybody" at the May 16 show of the acclaimed Broadway musical "& Juliet" at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, during a sing-along staging at the production.
About AJ McLean's '& Juliet' Appearance
The sing-along gig was part of the N'Sync-inspired "It's Gonna Be May" celebration series by "& Juliet," which features the song of the same name in its production.
At the end of this special offering, the legendary boy band member shocked audiences when he came out to join the musical's Du Bois Band in an encore, singing "Everybody." You can watch the video of the impromptu performance right below.
The show's company is currently comprised of Tony-nominated actress Maya Boyd as Juliet, Oliver Tompsett as William Shakespeare, Olivier winner David Bedella as Lance, Tony nominee Betsy Wolfe as Anne Hathaway, Justin David Sullivan as May, Charity Angél Dawson as Angélique, Ben Jackson Walker as Romeo, and Philippe Arroyo as Francois.
Specifically for the sing-along performance, however, Angélique was played by Megan Kane.
In addition, the ensemble also includes Daniel Assetta, Andrew Chappelle, Michael Iván Carrier, Phil Colgan, Virgil Gadson, Najah Hetsberger, Makai Hernandez, Bobby "Pocket" Horner, Joomin Hwang, Kane, Alaina Vi Maderal, Daniel J. Maldonado, Brittany Nicholas, Ava Noble, Jasmine Rafael, Matt Raffy, Tiernan Tunnicliffe, and Rachel Webb.
The acclaimed production, which is currently nominated for nine Tony Awards, takes an "alternate universe" approach to William Shakespeare's classic tragedy "Romeo and Juliet," imagining a scenario where Juliet didn't go through ending herself over Romeo.
The Luke Sheppard-directed production features a book by David West Read and a score comprising hit pop tracks from Max Martin and others, which includes "Since U Been Gone," "Roar," "I Want It That Way," and "Confident."
