The Oscar and Tony-Award-winning actor Eddie Redmayne will be returning to Broadway musical this season.
He was trying to figure out how to get around New York City with his family throughout his six-month stay on the show.
Redmayne chuckles, "I'm compiling a little handbook of 'The Survivor's Guide to Broadway." "Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, which opened on April 21 at the August Wilson Theatre, is a pretty good excuse to come here-I'm thrilled. I'm a passionate lover of New York."
In the revival of the beloved musical starring John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Joe Masteroff, Redmayne plays 'The Emcee' again. The production, a West End transfer that took home seven Olivier Awards in 2022, including one for Redmayne's performance, is directed by Rebecca Fracknell. The show is still going strong in London because of its success.
Although he is the only West End cast member bringing the show to Broadway at the August Wilson. He is accompanied by Steven Skybell as Herr Schultz, Bebe Neuwirth as Fraulein Schneider, Gayle Rankin as Sally Bowles, and Ato Blankson-Wood as Clifford Bradshaw.
Rankin and Redmayne have received Tony nominations, and the production has received nine nominations overall, including Best Revival of a Musical.
Redmayne said that it has been such a unique experience because it has been starting anew and fresh while, at the same time, having this character sitting in his stomach and meditating for three years now.
He claimed that his journey and the relationship with the character have lasted for 30 years, from when he first played it as a schoolboy.
Furthermore, he shared that great joy comes from each time getting to re-mine the character and re-look at it in a different context and with a different inspiration.
