Idina Menzel is everyone's darling songstress responsible for giving voice to some of theatre and animation's most iconic pieces, from "Frozen" to "Wicked."
Now, Menzel is gearing up for her upcoming "Take Me or Leave Me Tour" this year, performing hits from her expansive and storied career, including tracks from her latest pop album: "Drama Queen."
About Idina Menzel's Summer Tour 2024
Though often apprehensive in performing her big hits in fear of people being tired of them, the Tony-winning actress said she always searches for novel ways to iterate on these songs and show new versions as an artist.
In an interview with Billboard, she said: "I often wrestle with the fact that I often assume that people will be bored if I sing the same songs over and over, like 'Let It Go' or 'Defying Gravity.'"
"I'm always trying to rewrite things, discover or cover new songs, reinterpret them, and then I always get this feedback of 'No, we want to hear these songs," she added.
Menzel's upcoming summer tour seems to be a way to appease her fans' wishes while allowing the artist to expand upon her well-beloved classics and develop them further to something more appropriate to who she is as a creative in recent times.
In particular, the Glee alum said that she's trying to find the sweet spot between performances in line with her audiences' interests and those that make her feel like she's "growing" as an artist, singing in a way that "resonates" with her.
"I juggle it and then I sit with my band and we play with it and assess it and sort of see what kind of floats to the top," shared Menzel.
The "Take Me or Leave Me Tour" kicks off in July in Seattle, Washington, and is the artist's first concert series in over eight years. This string of performances is inspired by a musical piece sung by her character in "Rent," Maureen.
That said, as per Menzel, she now views the song in a different light while preparing for her forthcoming tour, in contrast to the time she took on the role both on Broadway and in the production's film adaptation.
Menzel also shared that the setlist for the tour comprises tracks from her stage career, alongside a "mixed bag" of jazz standards and select songs from her solo studio albums.
General tickets for the tour are still up for grabs. However, for the VIP tour package that first sold last April 24, limited availability is to be expected at this time. For more information on ticketing and routing, visit: idinamenzel.com/#tour.
