Last Friday, April 19, the funk maestros of the Ghost-Note band released their third studio album: "Mustard n'Onions," now out through Mack Avenue Music Group and Artistry Music.
Helmed by Snarky Puppy residents and multi-Grammy-winning duo drummer-keyboardist Robert Sput Searight and percussionist Nate Werth, the groove titans' new LP marks six years since their debut project for the label.
Because of this, the album will be made available in vinyl format as a Record Store Day exclusive 2-LP set on limited edition orange/yellow Eco Mix (100% recycled) vinyl.
About Ghost Note's Newly Released 'Mustard n'Onions'
Shortly after release, the new jazz-funk collection has already accrued critical acclaim from various publications like Jazziz, American Blues Scene, Fusicology, SoulTracks, No Treble, and Glide Magazine.
The latter even said that with "Mustard n'Onions" blaring out your speakers, "you can't possibly sit still," especially during the "intense unison passages from the band and go-for-it-all solos."
This echoes the rationale behind the new record, as per Werth, who explained: ""Mustard n'Onions is an expression of Ghost-Note's profound love for funk and jazz and its gravitational pull on our musical world."
"With every track, we respectfully take our hats off to the OGs of these genres while adding our additional influences individually and collectively," he continued.
Sput echoes this sentiment of respect with the giants of both funk and jazz whose shoulders they stand on towards their own band members, whom he calls his "10 brothers," saying that the new album is the result of "Tribal Righteousness" that forms when they all jam together.
"This Funk not only stinks, it heals... Nate and I are proud and lucky to have this unit gifted to us," Sput added.
The record's last advance single, "Grandma's Curtains," which was released earlier last March 29, exemplifies the stank-filled yet rejuvenating soundscapes that are ever present in the new joint, especially thanks to the musicality of blues-rock god Eric Gales among other Snarky Puppy standouts.
