Last Thursday, March 28, indie folk duo The Brother Brothers, comprising twins David and Adam Moss, released their new single "Brown Dog" ahead of their forthcoming record "The January Album," out April 19.
Their new song is a playful track about our dopamine dependency, relying on phones as our main source, and how we can all learn from the straightforward, tail-wagging way that our canine best friends are living their lives and stray away from such dependencies.
Of the new song, Adam shared: "David got a dog a couple of months before the album recording sessions and I was finding myself feeling alone and sort of on autopilot emotionally."
"The thought occurred to me that dogs have it so easy, they just love and admire, and it was important to look up and get out into the world and approach life from a more active and engaged standpoint," he continued. "Something we all need to do more often than we actually do."

"Brown Dog" acts as a follow-up for the sibling duo's previous single "Lonesome," the first track in the forthcoming record exploring what they described as "the conceptual passage of time through the varied lenses we have as humans."
This conceptual approach extends toward the celestial imagery of the desert, the planets, and time as it relates to man, all converging into the central idea of loneliness within the vast ocean of creation that is life.
In contrast, the lead single of "The January Album," called "The Illinois River Song," is a more down-to-earth track revolving around the twin's home in Illinois, located in a midwest river town with unmatched beauty despite its frugality.
The band itself sees Adam on violin and David on guitar, with the two of them bouncing off of each other vocally. The new record will be the two's fourth studio album and follows their 2021 project: "Calla Lily."
David describes the forthcoming album as "an ode to the time we had time to take time," referencing the month it took to record the whole project in January 2021, which is also where the record's name came from.
"Almost all of the songs were written in NYC during those first few months of the Covid lockdown and tumultuous police protests in the city," he added. "It was important to capture the zeitgeist but also just as important not to dwell on it in the music."
The two did exactly that, channeling the album's focus on the incredibly potent intimacy that people all around the world experienced during the pandemic, forcing everyone into an emotional and monumental period.
This tumultuous period saw the brothers leave their Brooklyn home to produce their newest record at the Montrose Studios located in Richmond, VA.
Coming along in their creative journey were producer and bass player Bridget Kearney (Lake Street Dive), drummer John Fatum (Sarah Jarosz, Jacksonport, Bella White), and audio engineer Phil Weinrobe (Damian Rice, Feist, Big Thief).
