How CDK Dance Company Perfectly Captured the Feel of GOTYE’s ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ Through Choreography

Whether you've gone down a lengthy "doom scroll" down usual platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, or whether you literally went through a stroll in the local mall, chances are high that you have heard of GOTYE's "Somebody That I Used to Know" playing somewhere.

After 20 million copies sold since 2011 and over 2.2 billion hits on YouTube, this over-a-decade-year-old song is iconic enough that it'd be weird if somebody didn't recognize it.

According to Rolling Stone, the electro-pop track from the Australian musical act even became the best-selling digital single back in 2012, and artistically, it has left a huge impact as well.

From a rendition using a calculator to a symphonious version using only one guitar, it has inspired a cavalcade of creative musical covers.

That said, this year, the iconic song is crossing over to the medium of dance, as the Netherlands-based CDK Dance Company choreographs a thematically perfect movement interpretation of the song.

CDK's Poignant Dance Cover of 'Somebody That I Used to Know'

The Dutch dance troupe recently went internet viral for their highly stylized yet conceptually accurate performance of the famed artsy pop ballad, garnering over 3.2 million views in just over 2 weeks since their video was posted on YouTube.

The appeal of CDK's version seems to be in more than just their choreography, as thousands of commenters praised the dance troupe's cinematography, visual blocking, and even their very stylish wardrobe.

One user even said: "The fact that thousands of collective hours of dance practice and creative editing only requires a free click and four minutes is proof we are living in the future of world-class entertainment!" Adding, "This deserves an Oscar for the world's best choreography!"

"I'm 77 years old. This is the greatest dance I've ever seen," another user expressed. "I feel blessed that it was suggested to me by YouTube."
