Willy Wonka-Inspired Backdrops from Viral Glasgow Experience Hit Auction for Sale

Three memorabilia emerge from the wake of the disastrous and hilarious Willy Wonka-inspired experience in Glasgow, Scotland two weeks ago to be sold in, so far, a surprisingly successful eBay auction.

According to a recap by Vox, the House of Illuminati-launched event saw disappointed kids and parents who paid as much as $45 per ticket only to receive half a glass of lemonade and rationed jellybeans for their patronage.

The keepsakes were the dull backdrops intended to evoke the "magic" of the famed fictional chocolatier's enchanting factory, all of which are now being sold as a set in an eBay sale initiated by the Monorail Music record store, similarly located in Glasgow.

A Good Addendum to a 'Disastrous' 'Willy Wonka' Experience

Despite the event betraying all the expectations of its visitors, it did cement itself in the internet's club of "clowned-on" entities, which is mostly thanks to circulating meme photographs. This includes a comedically drab scene involving what others dubbed as "Meth Lab Oompa Loompa."

Because of this notoriety, others have enjoyed chiming in on all the hilarity, with an Aberdeen art gallery even putting in its rendition of the meme.

This is also precisely what fuels the enthusiasm behind Monorail Music's recent auction listing of the two backdrops plus a freebie, which had an initial price of just £10 ($12) when it was first put up last March 7 before ballooning up to the current sale high of £760 ($972), 48 bids later.

The lot, which has a bidding set to stay open until Thursday, March 14, comprises backgrounds depicting a "generic-looking" and colorful chocolate land filled with rainbows alongside a black-and-white-striped backdrop that the listers said was used for the event's "time tunnel."

The eBay listing's specifications said the items' conditions were used and the colors are "all of them, while the type of items were described as "rip off.'

"Yes it's real," wrote Monorail in the eBay sale's description "A friend of ours has a workshop below the House Of Illuminati Willy's Chocolate Experience and rescued these original printed backdrops from the bin following the globally reported Willy Wonka scam."

In another ironic stab at the House of Illuminati's AI-powered marketing for the Willy Wonka experience, the sellers at Monorail Music put in a generative tool's output as part of the auction description.

It read: "This unique and exclusive item is a must-have for any fan of the House of Illuminati brand. The Glasgow Willy Wonka Experience Original Backdrops feature a stunning array of colours that will brighten up any room."

All the jokes aside, Monorail Music intends to put a more wholesome spin to the disastrous experience by deciding that all the proceeds from the sale will go to Medical Aid for Palestinians, a British charity.
