Broadway Alums Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Emma Stone Win Big at the Oscars 2024

Broadway alums bag big wins at the 96th Academy Awards this year, including Tony-nominated "Ghost The Musical" actress Da'Vine Joy Randolph for her performance in the 2023 comedy-drama "The Holdovers."

In addition, her fellow alum Emma Stone also bagged her second career win at the Oscars, this time under the Best Leading Actress category for her gripping delivery as Bella Baxter in the 2023 film adaptation of the comedy/sci-fi novel with the same name, "Poor Things."

As for Randolph, she first graced the stages of Broadway as Oda Mae Brown in the 2012 musical adaptation of "Ghost The Musical," a performance that earned her a Tony nod.

In this year's Oscars, she was joined by fellow Broadway actress Danielle Brooks as nominees vying for the Best Supporting Actress Award, with Brooks entering the lineup for her work in the Oprah-produced film adaptation of "The Color Purple."

In Stone's case, she made her Main Stem debut in 2014, playing the role of Sally Bowles in the jazz age-set musical "Cabaret." During the prestigious awarding ceremony, Stone was joined by stage actresses Annette Benning and Carey Mulligan.

Bradley Cooper, who played the late classical music legend Leonard Bernstein in the Netflix biopic "Maestro," also had a notable showing at the Oscars night as it got seven total nominations at the awards show, including one for Cooper for Best Actor of a Leading Role.

Mulligan also contributed to the nod pile, while the other nominations the biopic received were for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Sound.

Other stage stars that got a mention in the Oscars evening were Colman Domingo for "Rustin," Paul Giamatti for "The Holdovers," Jeffrey Wright and Sterling K. Brown for their performances in "American Fiction," and Mark Ruffalo for Poor Things.
