Acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and producer Morgan Guerin searches for "Peace of Mind" in the new lead single off of his forthcoming album, "Tales of the Facade," which is set to release on May 10 through the recently relaunched and legacy-filled Candid Records.
The reflective, groovy joint features vocals from Grammy-nominated artists Kokayi and Debo Ray, with instrumentals from guitarist Matthew Stevens, drummer Jongkuk Kim, and trumpeter Milena Casado.
However, the track's driving force is Guerin himself, whose talents as a multi-instrumentalist cover all layers of the new jazzy tune; in all its keyboards, reeds, bass, and percussion tracks, alongside its sound design.
Similarly, Guerin's virtuosic musicality spreads throughout his forthcoming album, the entirety of which he composed and produced himself.
Morgan Guerin Finds 'Peace Of Mind' Among 'Tales Of The Facade'
Guerin inundates his record with masterful performances on saxophone, bass, electronic wind instrument (EWI), drums, and keys, presenting the generational culture and mastery of music that he inherited from his family of musicians and of which informed his dedication to the craft.
That said, the album is beyond an extension of Guerin's jazzy roots, represented by someone like American jazz saxophonist Wayne Shorter, as it also pulls on his more recent influences like hip-hop giant and arguably the best rapper of the generation, Kendrick Lamar.
The title itself is a glimpse into the themes that Guerin's forthcoming record tackles, from societal issues to its inverse of community, inclusivity, and the hopes that are generated from embracing them.
In its essence, "Tales of the Facade" explores the modern struggle to find authenticity in a technology-driven world, which is represented by its album cover shot by Guerin's brother, Chase.
The record is Guerin's invitation to his would-be listeners, to try and take off their masks to let out their true selves despite the digital noise. This message is also present in his recently released lead single, "Peace of Mind," covering the difficulties of yearning for support.
Of this particular track, Guerin said: "['Peace of Mind'] deals with anxiety and the hard times we've been living through the last four years. I needed something that got straight to the point that was at the same time vulnerable."
"It is the act of asking for help, something that used to be very hard for me to do," he continued. "I've gotten better at it, and this music reflects that. We're not meant to go through life alone. The more we think we are different, sometimes the more we are alike."
"Peace of Mind" was released last Friday, March 8, on all major streaming platforms, which you can check out by clicking here or listening below:
