‘Avengers 2’s’ James Spader Talks About ‘The Blacklist’ Before Mid-Season Finale

The mid-season finale of NBC’s The Blacklist airs this monday on NBC. The series is one of the biggest breakout hits of the new TV season. Avengers 2 actor James Spader is now opening up about his odd couple pairing with Megan Boone.

The show’s two leads, James Spader and Megan Boone, recently spoke with The Chicago Sun Times about the secret to the show's success, however, Spader doesn’t know what that is:

“Oh, there’s a LOT of confusion and doubt! We don’t know WHAT we’re doing yet! But we’re getting it done. By Monday night at 10 o’clock. we’re getting it done!”

Spader’s co-star, Megan Boone, spoke about their strange pairing:

“It’s a good fit. She’s got a lion’s heart and feet made of clay. She’s kind of a loner. There’s something inside her that’s always hidden from everyone in her life. I have those elements in my personality.”

Boone added that her and Spader's bond stretches into the real world saying that he is,“really supportive. He believes in me more than I believe in myself sometime.”

She added that working with the legendary James Spader is a bit intimidating:

"But the intimidation is helpful: If you’re playing my part and you’re not intimidated by Red Reddington, there’s something wrong. So I incorporate every feeling I have into my scenes with him. That’s what makes it honest and alive.”

Spader echoed Boone’s statement,adding:

“Megan is incredibly eager and game, and with very little experience--and very open about that. Our relationship is a function of the relationship of the characters in the show. So it works pretty well for both of us.”

Earlier in the year, Spader spoke to The Huffington Post, about his character Red Reddington:

"He amused me. He has such a strange and enigmatic life, and I liked the fact that the show could surprise you and be sort of thrilling, and yet, at the same time, have a sense of humor and irreverence...Sometimes good people do terribly bad things. And sometimes bad people do terribly good things. And he's both of those. He's both of those at different times."

The mid-season finale of The Blacklist airs Monday Dec 2, at 10.p.m. on NBC.
