Fans of the hit TV anime "Your Lie in April," which initially aired in October of 2014, will once more be able to experience its charm in a highly anticipated live classical music concert featuring pieces that were used in memorable moments within the show.
This special concert will be held at Tokyo's Hamarikyu Asahi Hall on April 12, 2024, and will specifically include Charles Camille Saint-Saëns' "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso," Fritz Kreisler's "Love's Sorrow," and Frédéric Chopin's "Ballade No. 1."
One of the two headlining performers is Ai Takamatsu, a rising Japanese violinist who finished her formal training at the Tokyo University of the Arts and has won a couple of prestigious competitions in her career, one of which is the Newcomer's Concert of Tokyo International Arts Association where she received the highest honor with the Outstanding Newcomer Award.
The other lead performer is Shota Kaya, an active pianist who co-starred in numerous orchestras that are both domestic and international. He is currently hailed as one of the leading classical musicians of the next generation, especially since winning the top prize at Germany's 10th Franz Liszt International Piano Competition.
What is 'Your Lie in April' About?
The show itself was an animation adaption of Naoshi Arakawa's original manga of the same name. Its story is a heart-wrenching but hopeful tale surrounding a genius pianist named "Kousei Arima" who lost his ability to play the keys after his mother suddenly passed away.
After a chance meeting with "Kaori Miyazono," an energetic violinist with a peculiarly endearing style of playing, "Arima" slowly but surely regains color in his monotonous life and begins to play once more.
Besides the classical compositions that will be featured in the special concert next year, countless other notable pieces were also used in the TV anime such as Rachmaninoff's "Love's Sorrow," Tchaikovsky's "The Sleeping Beauty Waltz," and Debussy's "Clair de Lune."
Pre-selling of tickets will run from Dec. 26 until Jan. 13, with the general sale starting from Jan. 14.
