Steve Carell, known for his role in the hit US show "The Office," will make his Broadway debut starring in a Lincoln Theater production of Anton Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya," officially opening on April 24.
The new translation will be by Tony Nominee Heidi Schreck and will be directed by Lila Neugebauer, with the production projecting a preview set for April 2 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater.
Carell will play the titular role of "Vanya" alongside Tony nominee Alison Pill, who will play the role of Vanya's niece "Sonya".
Also joining the starry cast is three-time Tony nominee Alfred Molina as "Alexander Serabryakov," Tony winner Jayne Houdyshell as "Mama Voinitski," Emmy nominee William Jackson Harper as "Astrov," and finally, Tony winner Anika Noni Rose as "Yelena." The complete casting is yet to be announced.
The play will also feature design sets by Mimi Lien, costumes by Kaye Voyce, stage lighting by Lap Chi Chu & Elizabeth Harper, and sound design by Mikhail Fiksel & Beth Lake.
What is Steve Carell Known For?
Carell earned an Oscar Nomination for his character in the film "Fox Catcher." In addition to this achievement, he is also known for playing "Gru" in the animated movie series "Despicable Me," alongside flicks such as "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "Little Miss Sunshine," and "The Big Short."
The actor has also recently starred in the Netflix series "Space Force" and the Apple TV exclusive "The Morning Show," the latter of which has earned Carell nominations in the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Emmy Awards.
