The long-awaited Star Wars Episode 7 is finally on its way. J.J. Abrams is opening up about the film and its new release date. Meanwhile, the casting department is reportedly looking for new faces to grace the screen. Could you be the next Jedi?
The film's release date was changed from the full summer 2015 lineup to the less cramped winter. Abrams recently spoke with MTV about the shift:
"I will say that it is an infinitely better situation now than when they were saying they wanted it in the summer. Before I even came onto the project, before I was brought on, they were talking about 2015 and they made this announcement very early on. Which I understand, and I understand why they'd want that, but it didn't necessarily have anything to do with the reality of where anyone was creatively. So I think that it's a hugely important thing that that comes first, and that a release date is great, but you have to release something great. So to me, the new release date is a huge improvement."
Meanwhile, the movie is still looking for a few new stars. The casting department recently held an open call at Dublin's Croke Park. Kate Bone, a UK casting agent, told the BBC about the event:
"We are doing this to find someone who might not have necessarily gone to drama school. They don't have to have acting experience--just the right look and then we can see if there's any talent there. We don't want to leave any stone unturned, we want to see what's out there. To find an unknown talent is very exciting."
Episode 7 opens on December 18, 2015.
