The wait for Waitress is finally over. The all new musical, based on the 2007 film, is now open for previews. The show stars Jessie Mueller and features music and lyrics by pop singer/songwriter sensation, Sara Bareilles.
Earlier in the year, Sara Bareilles spoke to Billboard about her lifelong affair with musicals:
“I’m living out my dreams. My sister and mom were both in theater, and it was this whole discovery for me to see the community of cast and crew. I was in Little Shop of Horrors -- I played Audrey and a street urchin -- and Charlotte’s Web as a kid. Soundtracks like Miss Saigon and Oklahoma! were my introduction to being a listener.”
Bareilles also spoke to the NYTimes about how she became adjusted to her new job as a Broadway composer, admitting:
“It actually took me a long time to say that I love this project. It was very hard; it was confusing; it was foreign. I think I was having a little bit of an out-of-body experience with it for maybe the first year of working on this show.”
The cast of Waitress includes:
Jessie Mueller as Jenna.
Eric Anderson as Cal.
Nick Cordero as Earl.
Christopher Fitzgerald as Ogie.
Drew Gehling as Dr. Pomater.
Kimiko Glenn as Dawn.
Dakin Matthews as Joe
Keala Settle as Becky.
Waitress features a book by Jessie Nelson. Sara Bareilles provides music and lyrics for the show with, Lorin Latarro serving as choreographer and Diane Paulus directing.
Waitress the Musical opened for previews on March 25, 2016 and will officially open on April 24, 2016 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on 256 W. 47th St.
