‘50 Shades of Grey’ Movie Cast Update: Charlie Hunnam Praises Jamie Dornan as Christian After Quitting Film, Release Date Delay

The 50 Shades of Grey movie cast is really shaping up since Charlie Hunnam quit the film. Though Hunnam has remained largely silent about the role of Christian Grey, he has finally spoken up about Jamie Dornan, who replaced him in the film. In this latest update, we’ll take a look at Charlie’s praises, as well as the delay in the film’s release date.

Charlie Hunnam has managed to stay out of the public eye since he abandoned the much-coveted role of Christian Grey. But all of that changed when TMZ cameras caught up with the Sons of Anarchy star.

When asked about his thoughts on his replacement, Jamie Dornan, Hunnam admitted that he wasn’t familiar with the actor’s work. He did, however, offer up kind words for the actor and director of the upcoming mommy porn movie:

“I don’t really know his work, but I know Sam [Taylor-Johnson], the director, is amazing. She has fantastic taste so I’m sure he’ll do a great job.”

Charlie’s not the only one opening up about the cast, either. EL James, the author of the novel the film is based on, recently took a jab at Charlie. According to Perez Hilton, James broke her silence about the situation in a sit down interview:

"It was disappointing, but it is what it is. I wish him well. And now we have Jamie [Dornan], and that’s great. It’s been interesting with Jamie, [the fan reaction] has been so positive."

James was clearly referencing Charlie when she talked about the fan reaction being positive. After it was announced that Hunnam would be playing the lead role of her novel, fans of the series were furious.

The reaction was so vitriolic that the actor had to hire extra security. At the end of the day, however, it appeared that Charlie had enough of the negative comments. Of course, the studio insisted that his exit had nothing to do with fan backlash. Instead, they insisted that a scheduling conflict was the reason behind his abrupt exit, tweeting:

“The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”
