The next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, is fast approaching. The new movie is expected to crossover heavily with Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Meanwhile, the movie’s latest Avenger, Falcon actor Anthony Mackie, was arrested for drunk driving. A trailer for Mackie's new flick, aptly titled Redemption, has just been released.
Times are tough, but luckily no superhero has to go it alone. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is going strong, with virtually every film connecting to all the others. Now, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show has further expanded the universe.
The Captain America film franchise has a built in connection to the S.H.I.E.L.D. agency. Now, the new Marvel TV show and the upcoming film are sharing a character, Agent Jasper Sitwell.
Agent Jasper Sitwell has a long history in the comics, dating back to 1966. Sitwell has also been featured in the MCU since 2011, although those appearances have went mostly unnoticed by casual viewers. That is until now.
The character recently received some major screen time in an episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It is also rumored that he will play a much larger role in Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. Diamond Select toys recently released a list of Cap 2 movie figures to MTV News that includes the agent's name. Seeing as how the character was recently introduced in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, it's highly likely that his role in Captain America 2 will spill over into the show.
Dave Hollis, executive vice president of theatrical distribution at Walt Disney Studios, spoke about the Marvel movies ever-growing connections in a press release, saying "After Marvel’s The Avengers, the Marvel films are more interwoven than ever.”
The film features Anthony Mackie as the Avenger Falcon. Mackie was arrested earlier in the month for drunk driving. According to reports, the actor was pulled over in Harlem, and he refused to take a breathalyzer test. Mackie was later taken to the Manhattan Criminal Court building for arraignment. Mackie has a new film coming out, aptly titled, Redemption. The new movie, starring Forest Whitaker, comes out February 28, 2014.
