Rumors are flying that Tyler Perry and Spike Lee may be making a new movie together, despite the fact that the two were engaged in a somewhat racist feud. This could be good news for both directors, as A Madea Christmas has a quickly approaching release date. Hopefully, it will do better than Perry’s last film, Temptation, which received generally negative reviews.
Tyler and Spike have not always been on the best of terms. For an uncomfortably long time, the two directors found themselves at each other’s throats. Slate described their origins of their tumultuous relationship:
“Once upon a time, Spike Lee and Tyler Perry didn’t care much for one another. Or perhaps that’s putting it lightly; said Lee a few years ago of Perry’s cable shows House of Payne and Meet the Browns, ‘We got a black president, and we going back to Mantan Moreland and Sleep ‘n’ Eat?’ Perry’s response: ‘Spike Lee can go straight to hell!’”
Since then, the two have patched over their differences. In fact, Lee even stated that he could see the two of them working together in the future.
One film that Spike definitely isn’t working on is Perry’s upcoming movie, A Madea Christmas. The film has a release date of December, 13 and is sure to be a blockbuster. If you just can’t wait to check out the new film, we’ve provided the studio’s official synopsis below.
“Madea gets coaxed into helping a friend pay her daughter a surprise visit in the country for Christmas, but the biggest surprise is what they'll find when they arrive. As the small, rural town prepares for its annual Christmas Jubilee, new secrets are revealed and old relationships are tested while Madea dishes her own brand of Christmas Spirit to all.”
