Richard Incognito was recently suspended from the Dolphins following allegations that he harassed fellow player Jonathan Martin. While Incognito’s favorability is rapidly diminishing, not everyone is convinced that he is a monster. Some are even claiming that Richie is a victim of racial discrimination.
In a recent interview with sports commentator Jackie G., she opened up about her views surrounding the scandal:
“It's football--come on! This is not ballet class. Aren't these players supposed to be aggressive, muscle-bound boys of thunder?
As one of the leaders of this pack of testosterone-driven maniacs, would [Incognito] not be expected to weed out the weak links? It's the power of the food chain and it’s not only on the gridiron.
You can trace it to your local retail chain. Management tells associates that they are not fast enough and compare them to company scorecards. Yet, at the end of the year, management enjoys their hefty bonus check. It's a business.
Football players are there to make their team a winning team for the MONEY--not that warm and fuzzy feeling you get at grandma's house. Trash talk starts on the playground, and it apparently doesn't stop there. A bully is a bully, but bullies play football and pretty good football at that.
Those PBS ads on teaching your child how to deal with a bully may need to be shown in the NFL, so the victim’s teammates won't wait until after the facts to be a team and step up to the bully (top of the food chain). It's easy to step up after the damage is done and point fingers.”
