There has been another major update in the lawsuit of Tom Cruise. Rumors are flying that his sister, who is also a scientologist, will likely have to testify. This latest announcement comes after a new Church of Scientology opened, which both Tom Cruise and John Travolta attended.
Tom Cruise may be regretting his decision to sue In Touch. The A-list actor has faced a series of embarrassments over leaked court documents, and now it looks like his sister is being dragged into the fight. According to Radar Online:
“Lee Ann De Vette, a Scientologist and key member of the 51-year-old’s entourage who once acted as his publicist, has been slapped with a subpoena by Bauer Media in a move to compel her to sit for the interrogation, multiple sources have confirmed.’
It was gossip site TMZ, however, that first broke news of the $50M lawsuit. According to the website, Tom was uncomfortable during questioning and admitted that Scientology played a role in his divorce from Katie Holmes:
“In the deposition...Cruise squirmed in his chair as the lawyer for the magazine repeatedly asked if Katie fled their marriage because of the Church. Cruise hemmed and hawed, suggesting it wasn't true, and then the lawyer asked whether "Katie Holmes left you in part to protect Suri from Scientology. Cruise answered: "Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes."
Despite his current legal battle, Tom took time out of his busy schedule to attend the opening of a new Flag Building. Though the church has described it as one if its most important projects, attendance was much lower than imagined.
Tampa Bay Times wrote about the opening ceremonies, which occurred just over in Clearwater, Fl. According to the newspaper, no outside press was allowed:
“The outdoor ceremony clearly was for Scientologists only. The church erected 6-foot-tall privacy fences and placed potted trees around the event site. Streets and sidewalks also were closed. Anyone who attempted to get close was stopped by church security staffers.”
