Princess Kate Middleton Helps Charity After Royal Baby Prince George Christening, Sells Wedding Cake Slice for $4000 [UPDATE]

Princess Kate Middleton rarely takes a break from helping local and global charities. As a result, Prince Charles has officially praised his daughter-in-law, following the christening of her royal baby, Prince George Alexander Louis. In related news, a slice of Princess Kate and Prince William’s wedding cake sold in auction for over $4,000.

The duchess really loves the outdoors, so it makes sense that she would choose the Scouts as one of her major focuses. It’s her work with this organization, as well as many others, that has landed her praise from Prince Charles, who is first in line for the crown, after only the Queen. The royal expressed his sentiments in a written statement, telling readers:

“I need hardly say that I am particularly delighted that my daughter-in-law has helped to swell the ranks of much-needed Scout volunteers, since enrolling many more adults as leaders is the greatest need for so many of our youth organisations.”

The princess’ involvement in the organization has had a major impact. Since joining on as a spokeswoman, the organization has seen an additional 2,800 volunteers join.

Of course, anything Kate touches turns to gold--including her own wedding cake. Recently, a slice of her dessert auctioned for over $4,000. That’s pretty good considering the fruitcake, which was designed by Fiona Cairns, is over two years old.

Speaking of festivities, the duchess recently celebrated the christening of her first child, Prince George. At the special event, the godparents were declared, as CNN recaps:

“Among them is Prince William's cousin Zara Tindall, daughter of Princess Anne, and close friends of the couple...Oliver Baker, who got to know William and Catherine at St. Andrew's University, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, who went to school with Catherine, and William van Cutsem, a childhood friend of William. The other godparents are Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, a former private secretary to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry; Julia Samuel, who was a good friend of William's mother, Diana, Princess of Wales; and Earl Grosvenor, son of the Duke of Westminster.”
