Ant-Man is gearing up for production and Anchorman 2 star Paul Rudd is being sized up for the part of the film's lead. Could the funnyman be cast as the latest Avenger in Marvel's phase three film series?
Kevin Feige, Marvel’s president of production, recently spoke with IGN about the status of Edgar Wright's Ant-Man:
"We are tweaking the drafts [of the script] with Joe Cornish...and we're crewing up and prepping. There should be cast announcements, probably before the end of the year."
Rumors then began to circulate that funnyman Paul Rudd is in the running for the role of the titular character. However, The Daily Superhero is now reporting that Rudd is holding out for more money:
"One of the issues with signing Rudd right now is the pending release of his next potential blockbuster film, Anchorman 2. While Rudd is just a supporting actor in the film, the source says his stock will be as high as ever after the film becomes a huge hit this holiday season. (Some speculation by the source there but let's be honest in agreeing that Anchorman 2 will make a ton of box office cash.)"
Bludhaven Banter has managed to get a casting call sheet that indicates the second Ant-Man, Scott Lang, could appear in the film:
“Young girl, aged 6 to 9 – intelligent and appealing
Asian male, 30s – huge, tough and intimidating, comic ability
Caucasian male, 30s – over 6′, dangerous and rough, comedic
Italian-American male, 50s – scary and unusual features, deadpan humour
Russian male – 30s or 40s, wiry and smart, deadpan humour
Male, 20s or 30s – Under 5’8″, smart and funny”
Lang and daughter Cassie could be the young girl and white male that the casting sheet calls for. The film has been described as a heist film, and in the original comics, Lang becomes the Ant-Man after he steals the Ant-Man suit in order to save his daughter.
