The signs of the end times are all around us. The official Noah trailer was just released, as Blockbuster video closed its doors for good. Meanwhile, the globe has been hit with several real world natural disasters. Between the typhoon in the Philippines and the sinkhole in Florida, many are asking, is this the end?
The trailer for the upcoming biblical epic, Noah, has been released. The film stars Russell Crowe as Noah, who has to defend the ark from the wicked humans, who are lead by Anthony Hopkins. The action-packed trailer expands greatly on the short Bible story. Noah producer Scott Franklin recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the new film:
"Noah is a very short section of the Bible with a lot of gaps, so we definitely had to take some creative expression in it. But I think we stayed very true to the story and didn't really deviate from the Bible, despite the six-armed angels.”
Sadly, the disaster film’s trailer coincides with a series of modern day tragedies. Last week, the Philippines were hit by a catastrophic typhoon that killed thousands and left many more hungry and homeless.
On Thursday, a 90-foot sinkhole opened up in Dunedin, Florida, swallowing two homes. Jeff Parks, the Dunedin Fire Chief, told reporters about the disaster:
"They're going to start demolishing the houses. We're sending them to a recycling location where [the homeowners are] going to try to get some personal belongings out of the houses, anything they can salvage."
The world might not be ending anytime soon, but Blockbuster Video has seen its last days on this earth. The once-popular video rental chain has rented its last film, aptly titled This is The End. The film's star and writer, Seth Rogen, tweeted about that honor:
“The last movie ever rented from a blockbuster was This is The End. In high school I would go hang out at blockbuster every day.”
