Ariana Grande Releases ‘Last Christmas’ Single from New Album, Talks Sex Symbol Status and Defends Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber

One of today's hottest new stars, Ariana Grande, will be keeping fans warm this holiday season, when she releases her new Christmas album. The record will include a cover of the Wham classic, “Last Christmas.” The Sam and Cat actress recently released the sample track, “I Don’t Want to Be Alone for Christmas,” to tease the new EP. Ariana has also been opening up about her status as a sex symbol, as well as defending her friends Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber.

Grande spoke with Reuters on Thursday, where she defended her good friend Miley Cyrus' controversial actions at the MTV EMAs:

"She's an adult she can do whatever the hell she wants, honestly. She looks amazing, she looks gorgeous. She looks stunning and she's having so much fun. If her choices aren't for you, don't look at it, move on, talk about something else, worry about bettering your life, not hers--she's fine. Her life is the best it could be right now, you know? That's what bothers me about people and about society. It's like, 'shut up.'"

She also had a few things to say in defense of the increasingly controversial pop-star, Justin Bieber:

"He's doing the same thing as every other boy in the world right now. He's just under a microscope and he's being scrutinized by people that don't know him. I know him, and he's a good person--he really is, he's a nice person...he's a good guy and he doesn't deserve what he's going through."

However, unlike Cyrus and Bieber, Grande doesn’t feel the need to reintroduce herself as a sex-symbol, as she recently told Complex:

"I don’t think it has to be a reintroduction because the public has only known me as a character for so long. They know me as Cat, so I think of it as an introduction to Ariana. It’s not something I think about, 'How can I show the world I’m grown up? I’m sexy or more mature.' I don’t feel comfortable flaunting my body that much yet. I don’t need to do that to show I’m grown up. I don’t want people to talk about my choices or how little I’m wearing. I just want the conversation to be about the music and what I’m creating...I don’t see myself as sexy and I’m not comfortable being sexy and dressing sexy. I don’t see myself ever becoming a sex symbol."

Her wholesome image serves her well for now. Grande is currently starring in one of the highest-rated teen comedies, Sam and Cat, and she is about to release a brand new holiday EP. The first single from the collection, “Last Christmas,” will be released next Tuesday, Nov 19.
