This spring the American Classical Orchestra presents Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus and Horn Concerto No. 4, Michael Haydn’s Requiem and Krommer’s Concerto for Two Clarinets. Conducted by Thomas Crawford. The April 5 event also features the talent of R.J.Kelley (Horn), Nina Stern and Edward Matthew (Clarinet).
Conductor and music director Thomas Crawford released a statement about the selections for the upcoming event, saying (via Press Release):
“In the late 18th century, there were many fine composers writing compelling works for special occasions such as weddings, funerals, coronations, and memorials. Michael Haydn, younger brother of Franz Josef Haydn, wrote a concise requiem mass to commemorate the passing of his employer. It is a rich and sonorous setting of the requiem text employing trombones, trumpets and timpani alongside expressive string writing. The ACO Chorus also sings the iconic Mozart motet Ave Verum Corpus. Our renowned horn virtuoso R.J. Kelley brings his natural horn skills to the stage in a performance of the well-known Mozart 4th horn concerto. The Franz Krommer Two Clarinet Concerto adds light-hearted balance to the program. This concert is presented in the intimate and acoustically superior sanctuary at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church.”
Tuesday, April 5 , 2016 at 8PM at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church. There will be Pre-Concert Lecture: 7PM.
